This FREE event is designed to enhance the knowledge of how simulation can be used to facilitate learning, and includes invaluable plenary lectures, hands-on workshops and presentations all in a casual, cooperative and informative setting. HPSN Asia/Pacific, hosted by METI, Fu Jen Catholic University and Kuo Yang Scientific Corporation, welcomes participants from all healthcare professions with an interest in simulation and has proved to be an excellent forum for sharing ideas and networking with like-minded individuals across the disciplines and across the continent. Medical Education Revolution Through Simulation


METI, Fu Jen Catholic University and Kuo Yang Scientific Corporation are pleased to announce the 3rd Annual HPSN Asia-Pacific Education Conference, a free, two-day event for healthcare professionals interested in medical simulation and education. The event is designed to enhance the knowledge of how simulation can be used to facilitate learning and will include plenary lectures by leading figures in medical simulation from around the world, hands-on workshops and presentations in a casual, cooperative and informative setting.

Airport to Hotel

The distance between the Taoyuan (CKS) Airport and the Taipei city is about 50 km and it is a 60-minute ride. Travelers may choose from the following public transportation options from Taoyuan International Airport to Sheraton Taipei Hotel.

• Bus: Take either the Kuo Kwong Transportation or Da Yau bus to Taipei Train Station. Take MRT system from Taipei Main Station to Shan Dao Temple Station (only one stop), and take the Exit 2 to Sheraton Taipei Hotel.

• High Speed Rail: Take U Bus No. 705 at the bus station at Terminal 1 or Terminal 2 to High Speed Rail Ching Pu Station. Board the northbound train to the Taipei Train Station. Take MRT system from Taipei Main Station to Shan Dao Temple Station (only one stop), and take the Exit 2 to Sheraton Taipei Hotel.

• Airport Taxi: Taxi queues are outside the Arrival Halls of both terminals. To ensure the safety of passengers, only the taxis approved by the Aviation Police Bureau are permitted to operate in Taoyuan Airport. Taxis are available at Taoyuan Airport 24 hours a day. Airport taxis charge according to the meter in addition to a 50% surcharge (highway tolls not included) and provide transport to anywhere in Taiwan. (A typical taxi fare to Taipei is approx. NT$1,100.)

• Car: 
1. Take the Chungshan Expressway (Highway #1) north from Taoyuan Airport, take the Chungking North Road exit. Proceed to Chungking South Road and make a left turn at Chung Hsiao West Road. You will shortly see the hotel on your right side nearby the Exit 2 of Shan Dao Temple MRT Station.

2. Take the Chungshan Expressway (Highway #1) north from Taoyuan Airport, take the Yuanshan exit then connect to the Chienkuo Elevated Roadway to the Chung Hsiao East Road exit. Make a right turn on Chung Hsiao East Road to Chung Hsiao West Road. The hotel will be on your left opposite nearby the Exit 2 of Shan Dao Temple MRT Station.

Louis H. Oberndorf
Chairman of the Board
METI



Louis H. Oberndorf is Founder and Chairman of the Board of METI. His vision for METI is to develop learning tools that positively impact the education of health care professionals and ultimately improve patient safety and save lives.  Oberndorf’s leadership directed the growth of METI from a technology startup with five employees in 1996 to the world’s leading medical education and simulation company with more than 200 employees today.

METI’s technology and educational tools are used in 2500 organizations worldwide including leading medical schools, such as the Mayo Clinic, Harvard, UCLA, Cleveland Clinic, Mount Sinai, Stanford and others.

From the beginning, Oberndorf has contributed his knowledge and experience to various programs focused on advancing health care education.  Currently he serves on the Advisory Board of the Harvard Center for Medical Simulation in Boston, Massachusetts, Texas Woman’s University Advisory Board for the establishment of a Center for Telenursing and Health Informatics in Denton, Texas, and the Medical College of Georgia Steering Committee for the School of Nursing in Augusta, Georgia.

Prior to the incorporation of METI, he was an executive with Loral Corporation serving as Vice President of Marketing and Senior Vice President of Business Development where he was responsible for strategic coordination, start-up initiatives and transferring Loral’s defense and aerospace technology to the commercial sector.

Oberndorf holds an MBA in Management from the University of Utah and a BA in History from the University of Portland.  He completed the Senior Management Executive Program at the University of Michigan.  Additionally, he served in the United States Air Force from 1967 to 1976, achieving the rank of Captain.  Oberndorf resides in Sarasota, Florida with his wife, Rosemary.

Tom Doyle has over 30 years experience as a registered nurse, hospital administrator and nurse educator at all levels of education. He spent five years as Coordinator of the Patient Simulation Program at one of the first colleges in the U.S. to purchase the Human Patient Simulator. As Vice President and Chief Learning Officer of Education and Training for METI, he facilitates a team of educators around the world to assist customers in applying METI’s technology for learning.

 


Han-Sun Chiang MD, PhD

Professor and Vice-President
Fu Jen Catholic University

 


Han-Sun Chiang is Professor and Vice-President at the Fu Jen Catholic University, Taipei, Taiwan, RO C; also Professor at the Department of Urology, National Taiwan University, and Taipei Medical University.

Prof Chiang was the President of the Taiwan Andrological Association (2000-2003), Taiwan Urological Association (2006-2008), and the President of Asian Pacific Society for Sexual Medicine (APSSM) (2007-2009).

He is a widely respected figure in the field of surgical andrology. His research focus includes male infertility and sexual dysfunction, medical history, ethics and education. He has published more than 150 academic papers on clinical and basic medical research in peer-reviewed journals. 



Cho-Yu Chan, MD
Director of Education and Medical Quality

Cho-Yu Chan
has over 25 years of experience in the medical profession. He has published numerous research papers on simulation and medical research including “Evaluation of the effectiveness of computer-simulated training for laparoscopic cholecystectomy”.  He graduated from the National Defense Medical Center where he obtained a Doctor of Medicine (M.D.) and continued his studies as Chief Resident at Taipei Veterans General Hospital. In 2000, he joined China Medical University Hospital as Director of the Gastrointestinal Research Center. He continues his work there today as Director of Education and Medical Quality.

Hou-Chang Chiu
has over 35 years of experience in the neurological profession. After graduating from Medical College of National Taiwan University where he obtained a Doctor of Medicine, he joined the Neurology Department of National Taiwan University Hospital. Today he is Deputy Superintendent of Shin-Kong Wu Ho-Su Memorial Hospital, and serves as Associate Dean in the Medical College of Fu-Jen Catholic University. He is an Associate Editor of both “Journal of Clinical Apheresis” and “Acta Neurologic Taiwanica.”




Ying-Tung Lau
President

Ying-Tung Lau
has over 30 years of experience in the physiological profession. His major research fields are "Gender Difference in Cardiovascular Functions" and "Oxidative Stress and endothelial dysfunction in Aging and Sepsis." He has a Masters degree in biophysics from Creighton University and a Ph.D. in physiology from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute. He used to work as Senior Research Associate for the Physiology and Biophysics Department of the Michigan Cancer Foundation. Afterward he joined Chang Gung University and served as Dean of General Affairs, Chairman of Physiology and Pharmacology Department, and Associate Dean of the Medical College. He is now President of Chang Gung Institute of Technology.
