Using Simulation to Improve Patient Outcomes


In healthcare simulation, we deploy deliberate practice to improve our technical skills and interprofessional communication. During the Human Patient Simulation Network (HPSN) Southern Regional SimDay, we will address how we can refine our practice to improve competency, teamwork, and safety in preparation for the clinical setting. We will offer discounted pre-conference training on a CAE simulator the day before the conference begins. The Southern Regional SimDay will seek to provide interactive workshops, hands-on simulation training and techniques, and networking options with other sim users! The Simulation Program at the University of South Alabama provides multi-disciplinary simulation learning opportunities at its 5 locations in the Mobile and Baldwin County area. It's extensive inventory of partial task trainers and high fidelity human patient simulators create an optimal learning environment designed to improve technical skills, clinical judgment, decision making, communication, and teamwork. You will have the opportunity to tour the simulation center and ask faculty direct questions around their program and simulator use.

This year, the day prior to the HPSN Southern Regional SimDay, CAE Healthcare is offering an exciting pre-conference course opportunity on Tuesday, August 8th preceding the conference. Registration for this course is an optional part of your registration and will carry an additional cost. Seats are limited, register today to secure your spot!

Pre-registration required with a maximum of 20 attendees. This course is intended for new users or those requiring a review, however, all attendees must currently own an iStan patient simulator. This one-day hands-on course will provide participants with the essentials of using iStan. Set-up, power on and off procedures, use of fluid features, and use of the CAE Healthcare preconfigured SCEs in the Müse operating platform will be covered.

It is required that attendees bring their own personal computer with their Müse SCE developmental license or a free trial of the Müse software installed. If you do not have access to a Müse SCE developmental license, please click here for access to the free 30-day trial, prior to the concurrent session.
