Overview
Concurrent Sessions
The purpose of this international, collaborative conference is to focus on innovative education models and practical learning approaches for initial and continuing education of both healthcare students and practitioners.
At HPSN2012, more than 100 free concurrent sessions will be offered and presented by leading educators in the field of medical simulation. Whether you're a physician, nurse or paramedic, and regardless of what brand of simulator you use, you'll find workshops that will motivate and inspire you to take learning with simulation to a whole new level!
Training Courses
HPSN12 offers a number of invaluable training courses at HPSN. Whether you use METI or any other brand of simulator, HPSN is the ultimate place to discover hands-on tricks and tips for optimizing simulation in your learning environment. Book early as space is limited.
Special Interest Groups
The Special Interest Groups (SIGs) are an HPSN tradition. The SIGs are designed to allow individuals with a common interest around simulation and learning to come together in an open forum. Scenario Building with Muse Software for iStan
Description:
Facilitated by CAE Healthcare faculty members, this course will provide participants, working in small groups, the opportunity to program a scenario they have designed into the Müse software. Attendees are advised to bring their own laptops equipped with standalone Müse software so that they may easily store and keep their work. A limited number of Education and Training computers will be available, and work may be exported and kept on a portable USB storage device; however, Training computers will be configured with iStan software. Prerequisite: iStan Basic Training Course or Muse Training Webinar.

Transportation in Downtown Tampa
Trolley Services
The TECO Line Streetcar System offers 10 station stops along its 2.4-mile route. Five stops are located in Tampa’s Channel District, four are in historic Ybor City and one is downtown. The stations reflect the design characteristics of the district where they are located and incorporate public art elements that celebrate the lives of Tampa and Ybor City workers.
Transportation from Tampa Airport to Downtown Tampa
Depending on mode of travel and current traffic conditions, you should allow approximately 20-25 minutes to get to Downtown Tampa from Tampa International Airport.
Shuttle Service
Blue One Transportation will provide non-stop transportation to and from the Tampa International Airport and Marriott Waterside. No reservations are needed, just call 813-282-7351.

Michael Bernstein
President
Michael Bernstein is President of CAE Healthcare, a division of CAE, Inc., the Montreal-based global leader in aviation simulation. Prior to that, he was President and Chief Executive Officer of METI, Medical Education Technologies, Inc., the Sarasota-based global leader in patient simulation, which he sold to CAE in August 2011. He brings over 20 years of successful leadership experience in the healthcare and technology industries. Before joining METI, Bernstein served as President and Chief Executive Officer of Innovative Health Strategies, a privately held healthcare IT company that provided outsourced contract and data management services to pharmaceutical manufacturers.
Mr. Bernstein previously served as President and Chief Operating Officer of Cobalt Corporation, a $1.6 billion publicly traded Blue Cross Blue Shield health insurance holding company. Prior to his tenure at Cobalt Corporation, Bernstein served as Executive Vice President of the University of Wisconsin Medical Foundation (1997-2000), an 850 physician academic group practice with $250 million in revenue, the largest Group Practice in Wisconsin and one of the ten largest in the country.
In 1996, Mr. Bernstein was the Senior Vice President of University Health Care, Inc., a company formed by University Hospital and UW Medical Foundation to provide all professional functions for both organizations relating to managed care, contracting, data management, and medical management.
Bernstein has a J.D. from the University of the Pacific, McGeorge School of Law and a B.A. from the University of California, Davis. He is married to Sarah C. Skebba and has two children.
Keynote Speaker

John J. Nance
Author, Patient Safety Advocate
Air Force veteran and patient safety advocate, John Nance, author of Why Hospitals Should Fly, will deliver a keynote address at the HPSN 2012 conference. A founding member of the National Patient Safety Foundation, Nance is an internationally recognized broadcast analyst and advocate for both medical safety and aviation safety. He is also a decorated Air Force pilot and a veteran of Operations Desert Storm and Desert Shield.
In Why Hospitals Should Fly - The Ultimate Flight Plan to Patient Safety and Quality Care, Nance offers a new paradigm of patient-centered care. The book won the American College of Healthcare Executives 2009 Book of the Year Award.

Welcome to the Second Annual METI Awards
Last year, at HPSN2011, we launched the first-ever annual METI Awards for Excellence in Healthcare Simulation Video. We were amazed by the response we received from simulation users around the world and how passionate and driven they are about what they do every day helping to train first responders and save lives. The standard of all the videos we received from METI users across all fields of healthcare was truly outstanding and the recognition of those efforts from everyone who voted for their favorite videos was nothing short of inspiring.
Voting has now closed. Votes received after January 31st at 5pm EST will not be counted.
METI Awards Ceremony
The METI Awards will be presented to the winners at HPSN2012 including a showcase of the winning video at 6:30 PM on Wednesday, February 29th. The awards presented will be:
